In a radius of only 5 miles you will find fourof Jacksonville’s oldest neighborhoods:
These communities are known for their beautiful historic homes with wrap-around porches, great art scenes and quaint sidewalk cafes.
Springfield, the oldest of the neighborhoods, has been undergoing revitalization for the last few years and is continuing to improve.
Companies such as SRG and The New Springfield have been remodeling homes and pushing to revitalize this amazing part of Jacksonville.
From the SRG website regarding Uptown Springfield:
A Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Uptown Springfield is emerging as Jacksonville’s hippest and most community-oriented downtown neighborhood. Its architectural heritage pre-dates the Great Fire of 1901 – yet, today, the area features a variety of neighborhood and urban homestyles.
Now the focus is getting businesses to the area. Some small specialty shops have sprung up over the past year. Historically, small businesses focusing on custom clothing, arts and unbeatable music stores have always been drawn to these historic neighborhoods. After reading a post on UrbanJacksonville.info we have found out the BBB Complex at 1520 Main St. is exemplary of what Springfield has to offer.
Arturo Clothing, a local clothing maker and friend of Urban Jacksonville, announced on their blog they are moving operations to the BBB Complex at 1520 Main Street:
Arturo clothing, “We are moving our screen printing supplies into the Burro Bags shop. This will be a great opportunity for both us and Burro to feed ideas off of each other and expand our companies!!”
With the addition of Arturo Clothing in the BBB warehouse there are now four young retail companies ready to do some business in historic Springfield.
- Burro Bags – custom messenger bags
- Zombie Bikes – bike co-op
- Royal Treatment Records – record shop
- Arturo Clothing – hand screened shirts, bags and knitted hats
