June 18th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The best way to learn is by doing, and students from Bartram Trail High School’s interior design program recently enjoyed a unique job shadowing experience, thanks to Sisler Johnston Interior Design. The students spent a day in the field with the Jacksonville interior design firm as its team completed the project installation of Windward Commons, the new community center at Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach.

Spending a day at a job site with seasoned design professionals offers students a great learning experience, according to Judith Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. Here’s what she said in a company-issued press release:

“It is fascinating to see all the steps in the interior design process come together at the job site for the project installation,” Sisler Johnston said “We were excited to work with Bartram Trail High School and provide a real-life learning experience for their students, who will be tomorrow’s leaders in the interior design industry.”

The students, Kara Galloway and Sonya Cliff, assisted project coordinator Liz Rhoden and business manager Darlene Linge with the installation of fabrics, furnishings and accessories at Windward Commons. Program instructor Donna Lawrence also spent the day at the job site to observe the installation.

Besides all of the components associated with completing a 25,000-square-foot community center, the students witnessed how the interior design process can contribute to one’s wellness and self-esteem. Sisler Johnston Interior Design specializes in designing interiors for senior living communities. For more information, visit www.sislerjohnston.com.
