There’s no reason to be blue – it’s gonna be a busy Saturday in Jacksonville! Check out all the fun and unique events happening in our area and let us know which ones you’ll be headed to this weekend.

Saturday, August 13 – Join Jaxson de Ville and the Chamber’s Downtown Council for the annual Painting of the PawPrints down Bay Street at 8 a.m.  Jaxson de Ville will join in as his PawPrints are painted all the way to EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Free coffee, orange juice, water, bagels and donuts will be provided, in addition to free parking at the LAZ Parking Lot adjacent to the Jacksonville Chamber.  Afterwards, enjoy a complimentary mimosa at the celebration event to be held in the parking lot at the corner of Bay Street and Newnan Street.

Saturday, August 13 – For one day only, you will have an opportunity to take a guided tour of The John Gorrie, a condominium and see how the old blends with the new in this neighborhood icon. Join Wayne and Delores Weaver as they open the doors to the beautifully restored John Gorrie Junior High School, now transformed into luxury condominiums, for historic guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event serves as a fundraiser to benefit Riverside Avondale Preservation and Habitat for Humanity.

Saturday, August 13TCBY in Neptune Beach, located at 628-5 Atlantic Blvd., will celebrate its grand opening with 5 ounces of frozen yogurt and toppings for free to all customers from 11 a.m to 11 p.m. Choose from flavors including Golden Vanilla, Cheesecake, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, White Chocolate Mousse, Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet, Strawberry, White Chocolate Macadamia, Cake Batter and Classic Tart. The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; until 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday, August 13The 5K Stadium Challenge is a “stadium run” that will take runners up all seven levels of EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars! This fundraising event will be held 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and benefits the Duval County Athletic Foundation to help save athletic programs in Duval County Public High Schools. The Duval County School Board made a decision to cut funding for some high school sports programs, including Cross Country. These sports programs will only survive with financial help from the community!

And don’t forget, Jacksonville’s annual downtown resturant event starts on Monday, so be sure to make your reservations soon!

August 15 – August 28Downtown Vision, Inc. is dishing out exquisite cuisine at an affordable price during the fifth annual Eat Up Downtown, Downtown Jacksonville’s dining promotion, which runs for two weeks. Each participating restaurant offers specially selected, three-course dinner menus for $25 per person. There are no coupons to clip or tickets to buy, simply view the menus online, select your favorite and call the restaurant for reservations.

Have a great weekend!
