We know most people like to spend Labor Day weekend relaxing at the beach or grilling out in the backyard, but if you are looking for something different to do, check out these unique events going on in Northeast Florida this week!

Friday, Sept. 2 – Sunday, Sept. 4 – The 7th annual Jacksonville Tattoo Convention will be held over three days at Renaissance Resort at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine. Hundreds of amazing artists will be on-site with live entertainment including the Mrs. Jacksonville Pin-Up Girl contest, Burlesque by the Bada Bing Babes and music by Fusebox Funk. Other highlights include tattoo contests, parties, seminars, special guests and more. Tickets are $15 per day or $35 for a three-day pass.

Saturday, Sept. 3 – Looking for a fun way to entertain the family or out of town guests without breaking the bank? Head down to the Fuller Warren Bridge in Riverside, home of the weekly Riverside Arts Market, for Movies Under The Bridge. This free event includes pre-movie entertainment starting an hour before sundown, tasty concessions provided by City Hall Pub, and great movies to enjoy. This week’s main feature, Space Jam, begins at sunset. Guests are welcome to bring coolers, chairs and blankets but no alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Sunday, Sept. 4 – FL.ROC is challenging Northeast Florida athletes to see what they are made of during the Running Obstacle Challenge held at Diamond D Training and Boarding Stable. This challenging, but memorable race consists of a 3-mile course with 12-14 obstacles spread throughout, including low crawls, military walls, and trudging through creeks, mud, and tires. The first wave starts at 10 a.m. and registration is $80 per runner.

Tuesday, Sept. 6 – Join the City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Human Rights Commission, Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and OneJax for a Sept. 11 tenth-year anniversary commemorative ceremony from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing. The commemoration, themed “Moving Forward with Compassion and Hope,” will honor those who lost their lives as a result of the attacks and pay tribute to the many police, fire and military personnel who responded to the devastation that followed. The ceremony will conclude with a candlelight vigil, 21-rifle salute and “Taps.”

Wednesday, Sept. 7 – With more than 30 galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants, bars and businesses participating each month and dozens of artists in the open air Hemming Plaza, First Wednesday Art Walk in Downtown Jacksonville is the ultimate opportunity to savor and support Jacksonville’s deep pool of creative talent. This month’s theme will pay tribute to our furry friends and companions. From 5 to 9 p.m., “Pet Walk” will feature a variety of art and activities featuring man’s best friends, including pet-inspired art, pet adoptions, pet heath information, pet manicures, pet accessories and plenty of treats. People-friendly pets are welcome to accompany their owners.
