MBF Child Safety Matters

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. recently hosted “A Night at Roy’s” to benefit MBF Child Safety Matters™, a research–based, bullying and child abuse prevention education program. The event occurred  at Roy’s Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach.

“This annual event is important to continue the work of our foundation,” said Lynn Layton, executive director of the Monique Burr Foundation for Children. “We raise the funds needed to provide MBF Child Safety Matters™ to every K-6 elementary student in our area. In order to learn, children need to feel safe and our program helps them to understand 5 Safety Rules and the importance of telling Safe Adults if they don’t feel safe.”

Guests enjoyed contemporary, Hawaiian-influenced, gourmet cuisine by world-renowned chef, Roy Yamaguchi. Musical entertainment was provided by Colleen Orender from Nashville, TN and Mack and Jack Hazel and Jack Rosa, local rising young stars, also be performed.

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc., started by Edward E. Burr, president and CEO of GreenPointe Holdings, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide prevention education relevant to issues facing children today. MBF Child Safety MattersTM is a research-based, primary prevention education program, designed to educate and empower elementary students and all relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent bullying, cyberbullying, digital abuse and all forms of child abuse and exploitation. The MBF Child Safety MattersTM curriculum is approved in 55 counties in Florida and these safety lessons have reached more than 1 million children. The foundation has trained more than 1,300 facilitators to implement the program. The program is made possible through donations, which is the foundation’s greatest need, so that every child in every public elementary school can receive this safety training.

MBF Child Safety MattersTM continues to expand statewide as a collaborative effort with the Florida Governor’s Office, the Florida Office of the Attorney General, the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Children & Families.
