Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Awards Adult Care Center Accreditation to Jacksonville Pulmonary Center

September 26th, 2012 · Leave a Comment

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of North Florida (CFF) announces the Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates of Jacksonville has received accreditation as a Cystic Fibrosis Adult Care Center. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation funds and accredits a nationwide network of approximately 110 accredited care centers throughout the United States.

Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates is the only care center in Jacksonville to have received the Adult Care Center designation. The Pediatric Care Center at Nemours in Jacksonville and the Pediatric and Adult Care Centers at UF&Shands in Gainesville are previously accredited centers.

The new Adult Center accreditation is a positive indication of the increased recognition that those with cystic fibrosis are living longer lives. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system and affects the lives of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. In the 1950s, few children with CF lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatment have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF.
