JAA’s Economic Impact and Developments at Cecil Commerce Center

The ULI North Florida’s Monthly Members Breakfast Series featured the Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s (JAA) executive director Steve Grossman.

Steve got the group up-to-speed on the economic impact JAA has on Northeast Florida’s growth and development with a focus on Cecil Commerce Center.

Here are some interesting facts:

  • Currently there are 3,000 employees at Cecil Commerce Center and the goal is to have 6,000 in 5 years and 10,000 in 10 years
  • Cecil Commerce Center is designated as the 8th commercial space port in the U.S.
  • It is the only commercial space port on the East coast
  • It is the only commercial space port with a potential for tourism
  • Cecil Commerce Center is one of the most successful military base conversions and has great potential
  • All of the buildings are currently leased
  • There is plenty of land for development
  • One of the main goals for Cecil Commerce Center is to become one of the prime economic engines for Jacksonville
  • Cecil Commerce Center’s advantage is the airfield
  • Jacksonville has great aviation assets with four airports that don’t compete but compliment one another: Jacksonville International Airport; Cecil Field is an industry airport; Craig Municipal Airport is a business airport; and Herlong Airport is a recreational airport.
