The JAX Chamber welcomes the new Duval County School Board Superintendent, Dr. Nikolai Vitti, to Northeast Florida.

“The JAX Chamber and business community fully supports the selection of Dr. Nikolai Vitti and are excited to welcome him to the JAX Region,” said JAX Chamber Chair Tom Van Berkel, who is also chairman and CEO of The Main Street America Group. “Education is a top priority for the Chamber, and we look forward to working closely with Dr. Vitti in the months and years ahead.”

The Duval County School Board coordinated an exhaustive and inclusive process, including participation from the JAX Chamber and business community, to ensure it had three high-quality finalists from which to choose.

“Education is critical to attracting companies and the economic prosperity of our region,” said Wally Lee, president of the JAX Chamber. “We are pleased to welcome such a qualified candidate, Dr. Vitti. He is clearly a leader who can enhance Duval County’s education system, which is important to our business community. ”

Dr. Vitti, who is currently chief academic officer of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, was chosen after two days of interviews with three finalists, including Dr. Kriner Cash and Dale Robbins. The school board will negotiate a contract with Dr. Vitti and set a start date. Prior to becoming chief academic officer, he was responsible for Miami-Dade’s turnaround schools, which have made significant improvements.

“I am honored by the School Board’s decision and deeply respect the transparent process by which I was selected,” Dr. Vitti said. “I look forward to moving through the negotiation process so we can begin the collective work of taking our district to a national model of excellence for students.”
