Observer Media Group Inc., publisher of the Financial News & Daily Record, has unveiled a trio of changes at the 105-year-old newspaper, including a new name, new design and the launch of a new free weekly business paper.

The free publication, the Jacksonville Record & Observer, debuted Thursday, June 7, at more than 50 locations in downtown Jacksonville and other area business hubs.

In conjunction with the launch, the company unveiled a major redesign for the Financial News & Daily Record, including changing the name to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

The tabloid-sized newspaper, which is published weekdays, features a new logo with the Jacksonville skyline as a backdrop; a new font and all color photos throughout the paper to improve readability and showcase its coverage of First Coast area business news. Earlier this year, the company introduced a new design on its website, JaxDailyRecord.com, which reflects the look, font and style of the redesigned newspaper.

“For months, our team has been discussing and refining our new publication and redesign, and we’re pleased with the end result,” said Publisher/Owner Matt Walsh. “Our intent with the free Record & Observer is to expose more business people in Jacksonville to an expanded edition that has the kind of news and information business leaders rely on to thrive in Jacksonville’s fast-changing economy.”

The Jacksonville Daily Record and Jacksonville Record & Observer will continue to emphasize breaking business news with a concentration on development, law, companies, economic and business trends and how local government affects business.

The Jacksonville Daily Record also will continue its 105-year tradition of reporting and publishing court records and public notices.

In addition to the Jacksonville Daily Record, the Observer Media Group publishes Realty-Builder Connection, a monthly newspaper devoted to covering Northeast Florida’s residential real estate and homebuilding industries.
