Week of events honoring area military include Military Job Fair, Operation Shower, Military Appreciation Day Concert with Sam Hunt, complimentary admission and hospitality

Continuing a PGA TOUR tradition of honoring men and women in uniform, THE PLAYERS Championship has unveiled a full slate of military appreciation activities and programs for the 2017 event, including a special performance by GRAMMY nominated artist Sam Hunt on Tuesday, May 9, during Military Appreciation Day. The Military Appreciation Day Ceremony (6 p.m.) and Concert (6:30 p.m.) will be held on the 17th hole when the tournament returns to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, May 9-14.

The Military Appreciation Day Ceremony and Concert is free to any Tuesday ticket holder; a Tuesday Stadium Pass starts at just $25. Parking is also free on Tuesday and Wednesday of tournament week.

“I’m extremely excited to perform for our troops on the famed 17th hole during THE PLAYERS Championship,” said Hunt. “This tournament does so much to support the men and women serving our country.  I am grateful to be a part of the festivities and am looking forward to putting on a great show.”

Hunt is a Grammy® Award-nominee, American Music Award winner and MCA Nashville breakout star who has established a name for himself and is one of music’s most talked about talents.

On February 1, 2017, Hunt released his latest single “Body Like a Backroad” which landed on the Billboard “Hot 100” as his highest debuting single. It also premiered at No. 1 on iTunes charts. With its release, came the announcement of his headlining tour, entitled, “15 in a 30,” which will hit 29 cities this summer.

His debut album on MCA Nashville, Montevallo, is the best-selling debut album from a country artist since 2011. The album featured the Triple-Platinum-selling No. 1 smash single, “Leave the Night On,” as well as other No. 1 singles, “Take your Time” and “House Party.” Since the 2014 release of Montevello, Hunt has accrued over 2.5 billion streams and has earned an additional 10.5 million units in RIAA single certifications.

“We are eagerly anticipating the 2017 Military Appreciation Day concert with Sam Hunt,” said Kevin English, THE PLAYERS 2017 Volunteer Chairman.  “Fans will have access to the amenities located around the famous Island Green, like our permanent restroom facilities and various food and beverage options.”

In addition to Military Appreciation Day, THE PLAYERS provides all career military (active duty, Reserve, military retirees and dependents) with complimentary admission to the tournament all week and discounted admission for veterans.  To obtain vouchers, go to THEPLAYERSChampionship.com and click on the Military link.  Parking is not included with the free, or discounted, ticket Thursday through Sunday. All parking on Tuesday and Wednesday is free.

Throughout tournament week, all active duty and Reserve military members, military retirees, veterans and their dependents will have access to the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost, a hospitality tent reserved exclusively for the military which offers complimentary food, beverages and activities.  Located near the tee at No. 16, the Patriots’ Outpost is financially supported by THE PLAYERS and Jacksonville-area companies and individuals.  THE PLAYERS volunteer leadership – the Red Coats – are the lead sponsor of the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost. In 2016, THE PLAYERS issued more than 30,000 complimentary military tickets and more than 19,000 military members and their families were hosted in the Patriots’ Outpost.

Prior to tournament week, THE PLAYERS will welcome active duty, Reserve, retired military, veterans, and military spouses to TPC Sawgrass on Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost, to participate in its sixth-annual Military Job Fair, in partnership with the Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition.  The Military Job Fair is free and open to military personnel, veterans and military spouses who are seeking employment.  There will be approximately 50 companies on hand, all with open hiring opportunities.  Free career counseling and resume-writing assistance will be provided, as well as, information on local educational institutions with veterans’ programs. Previous Military Veterans Job Fairs have seen attendance of more than 500 military job seekers and 40 companies participating.

On Sunday, May 7, THE PLAYERS and Birdies for the Brave® will again partner with Operation Shower to host a group baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be.  Scheduled to be held from 12-2 p.m. in the Patriots’ Outpost, the event will be hosted by Jim and Tabitha Furyk and will feature Operation Shower’s signature Shower-In-A-Box, gifts of high-quality products for the moms and babies that have been provided by sponsors and donors.
