THE PLAYERS Hosts Second Champions for Education Conference

May 1st, 2013 · Leave a Comment

PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem and THE PLAYERS reconvened the business and philanthropic community to discuss the state of public education in Duval County. The results and recommendations of a commissioned study by the Bridgespan Group were also unveiled.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush was the event’s keynote speaker. Other participants included Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti, State of Florida Commissioner of Education, Tony Bennett, Chair of State Board of Education Gary Chartrand, Executive Director of Teach for America Jacksonville, Crystal Rountree,  and Chairman of Duval County School Board Fel Lee.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Finchem, THE PLAYERS Championship is dedicated to making a significant financial impact on local non-profits that promote youth education, health and wellness, and character development. In 2011, the tournament pledged to generate $50 million for youth-related charities over the next 10 years. To date, more than $11 million has been raised toward that goal.
