THE PLAYERS unveils the Patriots’ Outpost

May 10th, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Wednesday marked the official opening of the Patriots’ Outpost on Military Appreciation Day during THE PLAYERS. The event began with a special presentation of a TPC Boston membership to wounded warrior Michael McCombs. As part of the PGA TOUR’s six-year relationship with Wounded Warrior Project, each TPC in the network extends a complimentary membership to a local wounded warrior to use golf and the club camaraderie as a rehabilitation tool. PGA TOUR Commissioner Finchem and PGA TOUR player Nick Watney presented McCombs the TPC Boston membership. McCombs suffered several spinal injuries in June 2003 in Iraq, as part of his service with the US National Guard. He still copes with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and pain on a daily basis. His dream is to go to a professional golf school and eventually teach the game of golf.

Throughout tournament week, all active duty, Reserve and retired military personnel and their dependents have access to the Patriots’ Outpost, which offers complimentary food, beverages and activities. The Patriots’ Outpost gives military members the chance to be treated like a “high roller” at one of the world’s premier sporting events – free of charge. The Outpost, located on the hill between No. 16 and No. 18 fairways, is financially supported by Jacksonville-area companies and individuals.
