Urban Land Institute (ULI) North Florida recently participated in the ULI Florida Summit, which centered around ULI’s innovative “What’s Next” publication. The conference attracted more than 375 attendees from across Florida in an effort to bring a meaningful, content and networking-rich conference to Florida ULI members and others interested in learning more about the built environment in Florida. The two day conference was held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club in St. Petersburg, Fla. and was complete with mobile workshops on host city developments, four plenary sessions, eight concurrent sessions and an array of other events.

Peter Rummell, ULI Chairman and real estate executive, served as the moderator for the Mayor’s Forum, which included Jacksonville’s very own Mayor Alvin Brown. Other panelists included Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

The Mayor’s Forum addressed the vital roles of tourism and agriculture in Florida’s economy, but that the urban regions are what is driving the economic engine of our state’s future. Panelists also discussed how Floridians can ensure that the state’s urban regions will thrive in the 21st century.

During the weekend-long summit, attendees also had the opportunity to listen to keynote speaker, former Gov. Jeb Bush, who spoke about the future of regional collaboration and how it could fortify the state’s economic vitality.
