What’s Happening in Northeast Florida

February 14th, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Guys, pay attention! It’s Valentine’s Day. So, if you’ve a sweetie, take her out to have some fun this weekend.

You might begin by taking her out to dinner. And not just any dinner, but an elegant 5-course dinner that One Ocean Resort & Spa in Atlantic Beach is hosting on Friday, Feb. 14, beginning at 6 p.m.

The cost is $85, plus $35 if you’d like a wine pairing. Reservations are required. Details are on One Ocean’s website.

So, you’ve good taste. You might also want to show you’re cultured. Take her to see Prokofiev’s ballet “Romeo & Juliet,” based on Shakespeare’s love tragedy, on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15.

Shows both nights at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Jacksonville are at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available on the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra website.

If the celebration can wait until Monday, check out the Beach Boys at The Florida Theatre on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m.

The group, which is responsible for 36 Top 40 hits, recorded “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” and “Good Vibrations – “ among others.

Tickets for the event start at $44 and are available at Ticketmaster’s website.

Finally, more of an outdoorsy type? Then participate in The Color Run, a 5K event that stops in Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 15. The run begins at 8 a.m. near Metropolitan Park close to EverBank Field.

Calling itself “the Happiest 5K on the Planet,” the Color Run is more about fun and health than posting the fastest time. There are mainly two rules: 1. Wear white at the starting line, and 2. Finish plastered in color because you’ll be doused from head to toe at each kilometer.
