Jacksonville Light Boat Parade

In the holiday spirit yet? Great, because some of our favorite events take place this week, including Saturday night’s Jacksonville Light Boat Parade and Fireworks Spectacular in Downtown Jacksonville.

The boat parade – a one-of-a-kind tradition – features hundreds of boats decked out for the holidays as they pass The Jacksonville Landing on Nov. 30, beginning at 7 p.m. It all ends with the largest fireworks show of the year.

Stevie Fingers and Sho Nuf will perform live at the Landing from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. This terrific night is topped off by a fireworks display like no other that culminates with the signature bridge “waterfalls.”

The Jacksonville Landing Tree Lighting

The previous evening, on Friday, the Landing celebrates the 27th annual lighting on the holiday tree at a televised event in The Landing’s courtyard.

A 56-foot tall energy-efficient, artificial tree is decorated with more than 78,000 L.E.D. lights and more than 240 ornaments. Officials will flip the switch between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The evening will conclude, of course, with fireworks.

Chanukah at The Landing

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the Landing will also be the place for a community celebration of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. This event being held amid the 8-day holiday will include live music, food, games and the lighting of the menorah. The celebration will take place on Hogan Street near the gazebo along the St. Johns River. Shalom!

Bonnie Raitt at The Florida Theatre

Finally, if you’re looking for a respite from the holidays, why not check out Bonnie Raitt at The Florida Theatre on Friday, Nov. 29? Her show begins at 8 p.m.

Blues singer, songwriter and slide guitar player Raitt has won 10 Grammy Awards and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for recordings such as “Runaway,” Thing Called Love,” and “Nick of Time.”

Depending on how your holiday planning is going, her show in Jacksonville might just come in the nick of time – to give you a needed break.
