What’s Happening in Northeast Florida

December 20th, 2013 · Leave a Comment

"A Christmas Carol," Times-Union Center

Don’t let the holiday season slip away without seeing one really good performance, such as NTC Production’s version of “A Christmas Carol,” on Friday, Dec. 20 at The Times-Union Center.

Tickets start at $26.50, with children under 12 at $12.75.

NTC has been touring Charles Jones’ delightful adaption of the Dickens’ classic since 1979, and it is perhaps the mostly widely produced version in the nation.

So, no more “bah, humbug.” Instead, say “Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge.”

Christmas Tree, The Jacksonville Landing

And you’ve probably figured out we’re big fans of the holiday season. So also check out the 56-foot Christmas tree at the Jacksonville Landing, where there are nightly performances on its riverfront stage through Sunday, Dec. 22.

Performances take place during lunch and in the evenings on weekdays and all day long on the weekends. For a complete schedule, click here.

WinterFEST, Adventure Landing

Looking for some family fun? Try WinterFEST at Adventure Landing – Jacksonville’s best effort to recreate Northern winter activities in the South.

Adventure Landing transforms its Shipwreck Island and wave pool areas into a cozy alpine experience, complete with an outdoor skating rink, a 130-foot ice slide, light displays, s’mores roasting – and a nightly snowfall!

(Don’t ask US how they do that!)

WinterFEST lasts through Jan. 12, and includes Friday, Dec. 20, from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 21, 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m. -10 p.m.

For more information and pricing, visit Adventure Landing’s website.

Jaguars vs. Tennessee

Finally, what would a “What’s Happening” post be without a reminder to support our own Jacksonville Jaguars? The Jags play their final home game of the season against the Tennessee at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22 at EverBank Field.

The Jaguars are 4-10 – having won 4 of their last 6 games – and face the rival Titans, who at 5-9 have one more win than Jacksonville.

Here’s hoping both teams have the same record when this one’s over.

For information on tickets, visit the Jags box office online.
