The Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost officially opened at 11 a.m. yesterday on Military Appreciation Day. As part of the Grand Opening, the PGA TOUR and THE PLAYERS celebrated the Navy reenlistment of Daniel Daugherty, who retook his oath of service. Daugherty joined the Navy in 2000 and has now reenlisted for another six years, the maximum time period allowed. He is a First Class Quartermaster at Naval Station Mayport.

Throughout tournament week, all active duty, Reserve and retired military personnel and their dependents have access to the Patriots’ Outpost, which offers complimentary food, beverages and activities. The Patriots’ Outpost gives military members the chance to be treated like a “high roller” at one of the world’s premier sporting events – free of charge. The Outpost, located on the hill between No. 16 and No. 18 fairways, is financially supported by Jacksonville-area companies and individuals. In 2012, more than 12,000 military members and family were entertained (and fed!) in the Patriots’ Outpost.
