Breaking Ground Contracting’s Green Roof Gets 50 Solar Panels

April 27th, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Breaking Ground Contracting, a leader in sustainable building, just completed the install of a 10 kilowatt photovoltaic solar system consisting of 50 solar panels to the roof of its near-complete sustainable office and educational building. Once in use, the solar panels will represent a minimum 40 percent energy savings for the company compared to the baseline of a traditional building. The solar panels, in addition to the office’s 1,400-square-foot vegetated roof, will make this the first business in Northeast Florida to feature and maintain a sustainable, green roof.

Breaking Ground Contracting’s new office, which is on track to receive LEED® Platinum certification, is expected to be complete in May. The 3,800-square-foot sustainable office will feature solar panels, a vegetated roof with native drought-tolerant plants, vegetables and herbs, a rain garden and living walls that naturally remove toxins and contaminants from the air. The office is located at 4218 Highway Ave., just north of Interstate 10 off Lennox Avenue.

To learn more about the vegetated roof and the company’s green initiatives, visit www.breakinggroundgreenroof.com or www.breakinggroundcontracting.com.

We can’t wait to follow the progress of this project and the benefits it will have on our local community!
