Daylight saving time for 2025 begins on Sunday

March 5th, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Despite efforts to permanently end daylight saving time in Florida and beyond, it begins this weekend on Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m. Clocks will “spring forward” to 3 a.m.

Senator Rick Scott of Florida and his 16 colleagues introduced a bipartisan bill in January, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025, that would get rid of the need to “fall back” and then “spring forward.” For years, lawmakers tried to permanently end daylight saving time in Florida via the Sunshine Protection Act, with bills introduced in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. However, the bills were never passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, and they have never been signed into law.

President Donald Trump has made his dislike for Daylight Saving Time clear in the past, but now it looks like he might be preparing to do away with it altogether. Despite support from Trump and others, permanent Daylight Saving Time has yet to be enacted.
