Destination Riverfront: Activating the St. Johns

On June 23, the JAX Chamber and ULI North Florida will host a program on downtown Jacksonville’s greatest natural resource – the St. Johns River. The program is being held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Haskell’s riverfront café, located at 111 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville.

The 2015 JAX Chamber Leadership Trip to Oklahoma City provided the inspiration for the event. For more than 30 years, the Oklahoma River caused ongoing challenges to Oklahoma City residents that greatly affected its central business district. As part of a citywide revitalization project started in the late 1990s, the Oklahoma River is now one of Oklahoma City’s most exciting destinations.

With 13 miles of multiuse, asphalt trails located on the north and south banks of the river, there are significant similarities between the Oklahoma River and the St. Johns River. The program will introduce experts to continue the discussion on how Oklahoma City leaders transformed the Oklahoma River to offer kayaking, paddle boarding, and built a $45 million RIVERSPORT Rapids Center, which opened in May. The program speakers include:

  • Audrey Moran, 2016 JAX Chamber Chair
  • Pat Downes, Development Director, Riverfront Redevelopment Authority, Oklahoma City
  • Mike Knopp, Executive Director, OKC Boathouse Foundation
  • Tom Ingram, Advisory Board Chair, District Council Chair, ULI North Florida
  • Quinton White, Executive Director, JU Marine Science Research Institute

Tickets are $35 each plus an Eventbrite service charge. Tickets are available online at bit.ly/DestinationStJohns.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For information, call (904) 366-6675.
