Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville (HabiJax) has named four new members to its Board of Directors. The board currently has 26 members who are tasked with promoting the mission and vision of HabiJax – to build and renovate high-quality affordable housing and advocate of behalf of those in need and to serve as a partner and catalyst to create safe and sustainable communities. They also act in a governance role for the organization.

Named after famous Floridian Dr. John Gorrie, the inventor of air conditioning and the first ice machine, the John Gorrie school opened its doors in 1923 and permanently closed them to students in 1997.

Zillow’s Home Value Index indicates that home values in the area had increased 16 percent this summer over 2012’s prices.
