There’s something for everyone this week in Northeast Florida! Check out the interesting events going on in our area and get out for some fun!

Friday, Sept. 16 & Saturday, Sept. 17PHOTOJAX 2011 is the inaugural two-day festival celebrating the art of photography with photography-related exhibitions, artist receptions, portfolio reviews and a community cell phone image projection exhibit hosted by various venues throughout Jacksonville. The festival brings together photographers, photography enthusiasts, collectors, educators, galleries, museums and the general public to explore all aspects of the medium by answering this year’s thematic question: “What is Photography?”

Saturday, Sept. 17 – The City of Jacksonville’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission and Clean It Up, Green It Up will host the 2011 Florida Coastal Cleanup for Northeast Florida. This event is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s Annual International Coastal Cleanup. Local volunteers are needed to join this effort and can be part of a scientific study of litter/debris by recording results on data cards that will be provided. Advance registration is not required. Site captains will register volunteers and provide bags and gloves at the sites throughout the area. Free T-shirts will be available while supplies last. This event also provides an opportunity for students to satisfy community service requirements.

Saturday, Sept 17. & Sunday, Sept. 18 – The Spanish American War Event will be held at Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach. The weekend event commemorates the part that Fort Clinch played in the Spanish-American War. The fort will be filled with uniformed interpreters and participants will be able to enjoy exhibits of the armament and period military equipment. The cost to attend is the park entrance fee ($6 per car) plus Fort admission ($2 per person).

Sunday, Sept. 18 – Join Haven Hospice, family and friends at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for the second annual signature event for the Jacksonville area, “Joes v Pros,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Spend the day enjoying food, drink, giveaways, activities in the Kids’ Zone, a UNF Ospreys Mini Baseball Training Camp, and relaxing in the Pampering Patio, watching the Jags beat the Jets in the Man Cave. And, of course, the big game! All proceeds from Joes v Pros will benefit programs such as Camp Safe Haven for children who have lost a loved one. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for ages 7 to 17. Children 6 and under get in free.

See you out and about in Jacksonville!
