Alluvion, Feeding Northeast Florida Partner to #StaffLocalFeedLocal

As the devastating impacts of COVID-19 in Northeast Florida have continued to unfurl, nowhere have they been felt more severely than in the areas of unemployment and food insecurity. Realizing this, local staffing company, Alluvion and Feeding Northeast Florida, the region’s largest nonprofit food bank, have joined forces to launch #StaffLocalFeedLocal.

For every placement that Alluvion makes from June 15 to Sept. 30, the staffing firm will donate meals through Feeding Northeast Florida, with the twin goals of putting people back to work and donating up to 100,000 meals to local families.

According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s May 22 report, the jobless rate in the Jacksonville metropolitan area (Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties) rose from 4.3% in March to 11.2% in April with businesses reporting the loss of 79,430 jobs and nearly every industry but construction, reporting declines.

Food insecurity is a critical problem in Jacksonville. According to UNF’s Department of Nutrition & Dietetics Center for Nutrition & Food Security, in the U.S., 1 in 6 Americans (15.8%). lack access to adequate amounts of healthy food, including 21.4% of U.S. Children. In Florida, the numbers are 17% of adults and 26.7% of children. Within Florida, Duval County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity  with 20.1% of all adults, food insecure.

In 2019, Feeding Northeast Florida provided more than 14.4 million meals to its network of social service agencies in eight counties throughout Northeast Florida.Current projections are for more than 2.1 million meals to be delivered to those in need in 2020.
