Builders Care to Aid Jacksonville Man Whose Life Has Taken an Unexpected Turn

September 13th, 2011 · Leave a Comment

It is inspiring to hear stories about good things happening in our community. Builders Care, the charitable arm of the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA), is preparing to renovate the home of Mark Lamb, 49, so that it is fully accessible, making it possible for the former mechanic to return home after he is released from Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital.

A sudden and unexpected staph infection has left Lamb with complete paralysis. He has been diagnosed as a high-level or C4 quadriplegic.

“When I heard Mark’s story, it touched my heart,” said Chris Simons, executive director of Builders Care. “This man, a former body builder, is well known for helping everyone in his community. It is now our responsibility to do what we can to help him.”

Builders Care, with the help of numerous volunteers, is planning to begin renovations on the East Arlington home, located at 702 Willoughby Court, on Friday, Sept. 16. Simons anticipates completion by Friday, Sept. 23. The work will include modifications to the sidewalk leading to the home, widening doorways throughout the home and making the master bath fully accessible.

Builders Care will partner with Universal Design Solutions as well as the University of North Florida Building Construction Management program for the renovation project. The volunteer workforce will include members of Fort Caroline Christian Church, where Mark Lamb is a member and his wife, Traci, is the office administrator.

Builders Care needs our help to support this project and others. Visit www.BuildersCare.org for more information.
