Camellia at Deerwood welcomes Garrett Slagle in his new role as PrimeFit instructor. Camellia at Deerwood’s signature PrimeFit gym and fitness program is one of many amenities residents enjoy at the active and independent senior lifestyle community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garrett to our team – he has a great passion for fitness,” said Camellia at Deerwood General Manager Perry Brown, who helped develop the PrimeFit fitness brand for Camellia at Deerwood’s parent company, Seattle-based Leisure Care. “There is a strong correlation between fitness and health. Staying active boosts your overall energy level and makes you feel good. That’s why fitness is a big part of life here at Camellia at Deerwood.”

Slagle is a dedicated fitness specialist with a wide range of professional experience including personal training and has worked as a fitness professional in gyms, community fitness centers and health care settings. He has a bachelor’s degree in exercise, sport and health education with a concentration in fitness, strength and conditioning from Radford University and is working toward additional fitness certifications in water aerobics and personal training from the American Senior Fitness Association.

“My goal is to motivate everyone at Camellia at Deerwood to take their fitness to a new level,” Slagle said. “I believe you can strengthen muscles, improve balance and increase endurance at any age. I truly enjoy working with the residents at Camellia at Deerwood and I look forward to helping them achieve their fitness goals.”

Since joining the community, Slagle has expanded Camellia’s at Deerwood’s offering of fitness classes to seven times a week. The community’s PrimeFit fitness program includes all types of exercise, ranging from walking programs, recreational sports, holistic offerings, aquatics, low-impact aerobics, personal training and more, and its signature PrimeFit gym is designed specifically for the community’s senior residents.
