Clockwork Marketing Services President Maxine McBride was featured in a news story in the Florida Times-Union about the stressful nature of a public relations career. The story detailed internet career site CareerCast’s 2017 Job Stress report, which identities the most and least stressful jobs.

The demanding nature of the careers topping the most stressful list included firefighter, military and police officer, careers with a high risk of physical harm and danger. The journalism careers of newspaper reporter and broadcaster, where professionals work in a fast-paced environment under extremely tight deadlines, also made the list.

The position of public relations executive is closely related to the jobs in journalism included on the list. Public relations professionals help manage a client’s public image and their services are needed at times of crisis, often unexpectedly and on extremely short notice.

According to McBride, every day has different priorities and is filled with multiple timelines and client deadlines.

“These unexpected issues can be stressful and emotional for clients, and require thoughtful advice,” said McBride. “The immediacy of social media creates additional pressure for clear thinking. My responsibility is to remain objective throughout the process while keeping all of the proverbial balls in the air.”
