Commemorating History with Public Art

May 9th, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Join the SPAR (Springfield Preservation and Restoration) Council on Friday, May 12, for the commemoration of the original location of the Jacksonville Zoo with the installation of Melissa Russell’s “Giraffe” sculpture, Jacksonville’s first crowd-funded public art. The dedication will take place at 5 p.m. in Klutho Park.

The acquisition was made possible as a result of dozens of individual donors and a matching grant from SPAR. The Jacksonville Zoo will provide family friendly activities and the Jacksonville Historical Society will share history of the site. In addition to zoo themed snacks and entertainment, guests will learn the winner of our “Name Springfield’s Giraffe” and landscaping plans for the park.

Visit the SPAR Council for more information.
