Community First Saturdays Moving on April 6 to New Location Behind the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts

April 1st, 2013 · Leave a Comment

One of our favorite events, Community First Saturdays, is moving to a new location in Downtown Jacksonville behind the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts beginning this Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month, the event offers a variety of family friendly activities promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Created and organized by the JAX Chamber and sponsored by Community First Credit Union, Community First Saturdays has entertained thousands of residents and visitors since launching in October 2012.

Each month the event offers free yoga, tai chi and fitness classes, bike tours, a bike valet and food trucks. Special activities planned for the April edition include a Skyway Food Truck Crawl, a scavenger hunt, a craft beer festival from 12-4 p.m., live music and the opportunity to win bicycles and Jacksonville Suns tickets.

There is a synergy between Community First Saturdays and other Downtown events and activities. The JTA Skyway provides free service during the event to transport people to such locations as the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Jacksonville Public Library’s Main Library branch or the Museum of Science and History (MOSH). The water taxi is also available, with stops at the nearby Riverside Arts Market and the Jacksonville Landing.
