Details Abound in One Bedroom Floor Plans at The John Gorrie

December 12th, 2012 · Leave a Comment

The John Gorrie a condominium is one of Jacksonville’s most unique condo communities, and buyers have been showing great interest in the historic residence’s character-filled homes. Each one of the community’s 68 condominiums has its own signature architectural details, often reflecting its use during the time the building operated as a school. Buyers can choose from one- and two-bedroom condominiums and two-story townhomes, which range in size from 800 square feet to 1,800 square feet and are priced from the low $100,000s.

One of the most popular floor plans is the one bedroom, one bathroom “flat,” including the third floor address of 1303. One of only 12 condominiums on this level, the 1,025-square-foot home overlooks College Street and has lovely tree-filled views. With convenient laundry access off its entrance foyer, the home features a large 30 by 20 feet living and great room. The adjacent kitchen has an eat-in bar and work prep station and is equipped with stainless steel GE appliances, CaesarStone countertops and large walk-in closet area. Adjacent to the living room is the sunny master bedroom, luxury bathroom and ample walk-in master closet. The home faces south, and its beautiful, large windows provide consistent brightness and light.

In addition to their own homes, residents enjoy contemporary community amenities, which include a custom-designed fitness center, elevators and private gated parking and Wi-Fi internet access in the common area. While residents have access to modern convenience, as much of the building’s historic and architectural significance has been preserved as possible. In many instances, the best of old has been mixed with the best of new. For example, the former principal’s office of the school has been turned into a resident’s reading room. Refinished school cabinets and concrete elements that used to grace the school’s courtyards mingle with comfortable classic furniture and historical photos. The restored original private courtyard provides residents with a tranquil outdoor gathering space, perfect for lounging or socializing.

The John Gorrie is located on the corner of Stockton and College streets, within walking distance of a multitude of local restaurants, boutiques and shopping areas. Residents also enjoy close proximity to the banks of the St. Johns River, oak-canopied streets and a sampling of the area’s most marvelously maintained parks. The community is minutes from downtown Jacksonville with national sporting venues and cultural landmarks such as the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens in Riverside.
