First Wednesday Art Walk to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

October 5th, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Tomorrow is the First Wednesday Art Walk and the monthly event in downtown Jacksonville will feature a new vibe as the October event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.

Hemming Plaza will showcase the art of more than 20 Hispanic artists. There will also be Latin music, dancing and food at numerous businesses and cultural institutions throughout art walk.

In addition to the Hispanic Heritage celebration, there are several unique events planned for tomorrow’s art walk, including:

The Florida Theatre will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The theater’s grand reopening on Oct. 1, 1983, was one of the most ambitious and successful art projects ever undertaken in Jacksonville.

The Main Library will celebrate 40 years of Jacksonville’s consolidation with a gallery of vintage photos on the third floor and live music by David Milam. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. in the Hicks Auditorium and the St. Johns River City Band will perform outside.

Representatives and volunteers from the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce  will be outside the former Haydon Burns Library on Ocean Street exhibiting a special “No on 4” display.  The Chamber, which is urging its members and the community to vote “No” on Amendment 4 in the November election, recently captured unique photographic images of small business owners, big business leaders and union workers supporting the “No on 4” message.  Be sure to check it out!

The art walk is held from 5 to 9 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month in downtown Jacksonville. In addition to supporting Jacksonville’s deep pool of creative talent, it offers many things to see and do. We look forward to seeing you there!
