HBB2016

The American dream of owning a home evokes a sense of pride, security and comfort. More Jacksonville families will soon take pride in being part of the American dream and moving into a new home that they worked hard to build as part of the Home Builders Blitz 2016. This year’s event is scheduled from June 6 to 10.

What is Home Builders Blitz?

Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax), in partnership with the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA) and its charitable arm, Builders Care, will construct 12 new homes and complete five rehabilitation projects in just five days in Jacksonville’s New Town neighborhood as part of Home Builders Blitz 2016.

“All of us at NEFBA recognize the power of the Home Builders Blitz and we are honored to give back to our community through our participation in this year’s event,” said 2016 NEFBA President Chet Skinner. “I believe that with the building and renovating of these homes, New Town will continue to grow and experience tremendous success.”

The Home Builders Blitz also will mark the completion of HabiJax’s 2,000th home, serving 2,000 families in Jacksonville through homeownership. HabiJax is the first Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States to reach 2,000 families served through homeownership.

“We could not have accomplished this achievement without the support of our homeowners, community partners including NEFBA and Builders Care, New Town residents, volunteers, stakeholders, and the City of Jacksonville throughout the years,” said Mary Kay O’Rourke, president and CEO of HabiJax. “Our vision is to build high quality affordable housing to enhance neighborhoods and we appreciate the community’s assistance to make a difference in the lives of so many families.”

Why New Town?

HabiJax has committed its experience, housing products and services to revitalizing the historic neighborhood of New Town and is a partner in the New Town Success Zone, a collaboration of public and private organizations offering a continuum of services to help children and their families living in New Town achieve the goals of healthy development, academic success and well-being. To date, HabiJax has built more than 270 homes and invested $16 million to complete more than 400 homeownership and rehabilitation projects in New Town.

Who You Help

The Home Builders Blitz helps people like Brian Collier, a longtime Jacksonville resident and a new father. He wants a place to call his own and his infant daughter to have a home. A friend who has a HabiJax home told Collier about the program.

“Becoming a father and recently turning 30 have inspired me to own my own home,” Collier said. “Homeownership is a big stepping stone. I am grateful for the opportunity HabiJax provides and for all of the community support that is making my new home possible. I believe it will open up many positive changes in my life.”

How You Can Help

HabiJax, NEFBA and Builders Care invite the community to attend the CEO Build Kick-Off event on Monday, June 6. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at 1942 W. 4th St. in New Town. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include remarks from local dignitaries and a celebration recognizing HabiJax’s 2,000th home, serving 200 families in Jacksonville through homeownership, that includes a wall raising ceremony at 9 a.m.

In-kind donations and sponsorships are still needed. To make a donation of any kind, visit https://habijax.org/events/hbb2016/.
