Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax), in partnership with Builders Care, will construct 12 new homes and complete five rehabilitation projects in just five days in the New Town Neighborhood as part of Home Builders Blitz 2016. The event, planned for June 6 to 10, also will mark the completion of HabiJax’s 2,000th home, serving 2,000 families in Jacksonville through homeownership.

HabiJax is the first Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States to reach 2,000 families served through homeownership. The organization will celebrate this accomplishment with community leaders and stakeholders during the CEO Build Kick-Off event, from 8 to 10 a.m., on Monday, June 6.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this important milestone as part of this year’s Home Builders Blitz,” said Mary Kay O’Rourke, president and CEO of HabiJax. “We could not have accomplished this achievement without the support of our homeowners, community partners, New Town residents, volunteers, stakeholders, and the City of Jacksonville throughout the years. We appreciate the community’s assistance and participation to make a difference in the lives of so many families.”

HabiJax is in need of volunteers to assist with Home Builders Blitz 2016 before, during and after the week-long event. During the event, volunteers are needed both on the construction site and in numerous non-construction capacities. Volunteer registration is now open online and slots are filling quickly. In-kind donations and sponsorships also are needed. To make a donation or for more information, contact Molly Davidson, HabiJax vice president of Fund Development, at (904) 208-6651.

HabiJax has committed its experience, housing products and services to revitalizing the historic neighborhood of New Town and is a partner in the New Town Success Zone. To date, HabiJax has built more than 270 homes and invested $16 million to complete more than 400 homeownership and rehabilitation projects in New Town.

During its 28 years of building communities with its partners, HabiJax has improved the city of Jacksonville with high-quality affordable homes and enhanced neighborhoods, providing a better quality of life for homeowners and their children in five areas of the Urban Core of Jacksonville.
