Jax Federal Credit Union to Host Free Shred Day and Fraud Prevention Seminar on Feb. 8

January 31st, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Jax Federal Credit Union will host a free shred day and fraud prevention seminar at its headquarters (562 Park Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204) on Saturday, Feb. 8.

According to the Federal Trade Commission’s 2019 Consumer Sentinel Network, Florida ranked first in the nation for its per capita rate of fraud reports and fourth in the nation for identity theft reports. Shredding documents with sensitive personal information, such as a Social Security Number or financial account details, can help reduce the risk of being targeted for these types of crimes.

The shred day will begin at 9 a.m. and run until the shred trucks are full. Guests are limited to four paper bags of documents per person; plastic bags will not be accepted. Only documents with sensitive personal information should be shredded, such as pay stubs, financial statements, pre-approved credit card offers, medical records and tax forms. Papers must be free of paper clips and staples. Magazines and catalogs should be recycled at home or a designated facility.

The fraud prevention seminar will begin at 10 a.m. and run for approximately one hour, with additional time for questions. Attendance is limited to 50 guests. Advance registration is required; participants may register online at jaxfcu.org/shred-day.

Both events are open to any members of the Northeast Florida community, regardless of their membership status with the credit union. Jax Federal Credit Union membership is open to anyone who lives, learns, works or worships in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Baker and Nassau Counties.
