JAXPORT Presents ‘Mixed Cargo’ Art Exhibit

September 14th, 2010 · Leave a Comment

When you think of the port, art doesn’t necessarily come to mind. However, JAXPORT has been a long-time supporter of the arts in the Jacksonville community. Located on the first floor of the JAXPORT headquarters, The JAXPORT Gallery features local artists rotating on a bimonthly basis. JAXPORT Gallery is open during normal hours and admission is free.

This month, the gallery continues its support of local artists through its Mixed Cargo exhibit, an environmentally-friendly art exhibit that highlights the port’s green efforts.  JAXPORT has partnered with the Art Guild of Orange Park (AGOP) and the Society of Mixed Media Artists (SoMMA) to create this cutting-edge presentation.

JAXPORT initiated the exhibit, donating roughly 200 unused copies of its 2008 Annual Report to artists from AGOP and SoMMA. The award-winning booklet features images by the late photographer Kelly LaDuke as well as a selection of recycled paper.

Northeast Florida artists created a port-themed collage or mixed media piece with at least 50 percent of the content originating from JAXPORT’s Annual Report. Show judge is award-winning artist and teacher Tony Wood. The exhibition opens Sept. 24.
