Junior Golf at its Best – The Junior PLAYERS

August 30th, 2013 · Leave a Comment

This weekend marks the 7th year that TPC Sawgrass will host The Junior PLAYERS, Junior Golf’s Premier Tournament, a partnership between the PGA Tour and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).

The tournament brings the top 78 junior golfers (12 to 18 year old boys), as ranked by the Polo Golf Rankings, from around the world. There are 18 countries represented this year.

The Junior PLAYERS is presented by TaylorMade Adidas, and all tournament details are designed to replicate the experience of THE PLAYERS Championship that takes place every May. This is the only AJGA event that provides caddies for all golfers.  They use the players locker room and play the same tee and pin placements as the professionals in THE PLAYERS Championship.

Morgan Hoffman won the inaugural event in 2007 by three strokes with a 7-under-par 209 for the three-day event.  Notable alumni from the Junior PLAYERS include Peter Uihlein (2010 US Amateur, 2013 Madeira Island Open), Bobby Wyatt (led Alabama to victory in the 2013 NCAA Championships), Patrick Cantlay (low amateur at the 2012 Masters and 2011 US Open) and Jordan Spieth (won 2013 John Deere Classic and ranked 8th in the FedEx Cup rankings) to name a few.

This tournament is open to the public and free to attend.  Come on out Friday, Saturday or Sunday, see some great golf and get an autograph. Who knows, maybe it will be from a future PLAYERS Champion!
