Leadership Jacksonville, an organization that develops youth and adult leaders in Northeast Florida, held its annual luncheon for Leadership Jacksonville Program graduates. The event, which officially welcomed graduates of the Leadership Jacksonville Program Class of 2013 and New Leadership Summit XI participants, took place at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.

The guest speaker for the luncheon was Councilwoman Lori N. Boyer, who presented a program on “Consolidated Government Revisited.” Boyer has served as Jacksonville City Council member representing District 5 since July of 2011. She serves as the chair of the Rules and Land Use and Zoning committee, the chair of the Task Force on Consolidation, the liaison to the Downtown Investment Authority and a member of the Waterways Commission.

Honorary Lifetime Members James F. Bailey, Jr., and Thomas T. Chiu, M.D. were inducted during the luncheon.

Bailey is president and publisher of Bailey Publishing & Communications, Inc., which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. He is a highly respected and involved member of the community who has held leadership roles on numerous boards and organizations. Bailey is currently serving as a board member of Episcopal School of Jacksonville and Goodwill Industries of North Florida and served on the board of the Downtown Investment Authority.

Chiu is the medical director of external affairs for the Department of Pediatrics, University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville. He is also the North Central Regional Medical Director with the State of Florida Children’s Medical Services, overseeing 23 counties. He has received numerous awards during his career, including Health Care Hero from the Jacksonville Business Journal, a Local Legend in Florida Doctor magazine and the Philip H. Gilbert award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.

The Leadership Jacksonville program is one of the four core programs of the Leadership Jacksonville organization. The year-long program brings together leaders from throughout the community to analyze major areas of community concern, provide opportunities for open dialogue between leaders with diverse perspectives, explore leadership styles and create a network of community trustees committed to the greater good.

The New Leadership Summit is a two-day summit for senior level executives who are new to the community. They learn about the region’s assets, issues, institutions and leadership, through interaction with key corporate, civic, social and educational leaders.
