May 24th, 2011 · Leave a Comment

The early morning crowd stood to their feet and cheered as Mayor-Elect Alvin Brown entered the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Council breakfast meeting on Friday. Brown said he was proud of Jacksonville and our city for putting partisan politics aside. This race wasn’t about Democrats or Republicans but about Jacksonville. Brown said he believes in the Chamber and its mission, noting Jacksonville has the best Chamber in the country. Brown intends to embrace the Chamber and reach out to its members as they are important to our city.

Mayor-Elect Brown shared a few of his priorities during the breakfast, including:

  • Putting Jacksonville back to work with job growth
  • Balancing the budget
  • Focusing on education
  • Public safety

Many small business owners are members of the Downtown Council and Mayor-Elect Brown stressed the importance of supporting these businesses, which he noted are the engine of our community. Brown also believes in our downtown as it speaks to the city’s character. He wants to create a vision for Jacksonville that is shared by everyone.

We look forward to hearing more about Brown’s vision and are excited about Jacksonville’s future under our new mayor-elect!
