Military Appreciation Day at THE PLAYERS

May 9th, 2013 · Leave a Comment

THE PLAYERS is more than a golf tournament and a showcase of elite golf and a world-class facility. THE PLAYERS week is filled with activities that highlight the “good side of sports,” most notably, a commitment to honoring the men and women who serve in the U.S. Military.

 2005 Tournament Champion Fred Funk

The Military Appreciation Day program, “A Salute to the United States Navy,” was held on the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse Lawn Wednesday and included pageantry by military personnel, a performance by the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus, as well as remarks from PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, Admiral Jack Scorby and 2005 tournament champion Fred Funk.

Nicholas Leisle

Eagle Scout Nicholas Leisle led the audience and participants in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Red Starts of North Florida provided a spectacular flyover.

A performance by country music star Dierks Bentley concluded the Military Appreciation Day program.
