More than $136,000 was raised at the recent Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. Annual Pro Am Golf Tournament. The 19^th annual event, now known as the MBF Champions for Child Safety Pro Am, was held at the Palencia Club. This year’s tournament produced a hole-in-one from amateur golfer, Tom Young.  Palencia Club typically only sees 10-12 hole-in-ones per year.  Along with honorary chairs  Fred Funk, Jim Furyk and Mark McCumber; an additional 18 Pros participated in the tournament, paired with amateur teams at the Heritage Capital Group Pairings Party the evening before the tournament.

 “We are very grateful to all the sponsors, participants and honorary chairs,” said Executive Director Lynn Layton. “Their support means that children across our state will have access to MBF Child Safety Matters™, an educational program designed to prevent bullying and child abuse.” Lt. Lakesha Burton spoke at the tournament’s closing ceremony to highlight just how important MBF Child Safety Matters is and what a difference it could have made in her life. “The hurt & pain caused by sexual abuse is unimaginable and is the reason, why I’m a police officer,” said Lt. Burton. “What if I had been taught this [MBF Child Safety Matters] in the 5^th grade. There’s no doubt in my mind that if I had been exposed to the Child Safety Matters curriculum that my life would have taken a different path.”
