January 9th, 2012 · Leave a Comment

If you’re haven’t done so already, it’s time to register for this Friday’s NAIOP of Northeast Florida luncheon featuring guest speaker Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll. The lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Hyatt Regency – Jacksonville Riverfront. Lt. Gov. Carroll will discuss the state’s progress and focus on education, jobs and economic growth, as well as provide an update on Northeast Florida’s business and education sectors.

“We are honored to welcome Lieutenant Governor Carroll back to her home of Northeast Florida and look forward to her insight on what is happening around the state and here in our community,” said Gordon Steadman, 2012 NAIOP of Northeast Florida Chapter president. “Our goal at NAIOP is to bring exceptional speakers to the Northeast Florida community to educate our members and the public on the issues that affect our local businesses and city. Last year we welcomed Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida’s Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope, and Secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Herschel Vinyard. We are excited to kick off 2012 with such an esteemed speaker as Lieutenant Governor Carroll.”

Prior to her role as Florida’s 18th Lt. Governor, Carroll was a state legislator for more than seven years, a small business owner, former executive director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs and a Navy veteran. Carroll was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad West Indies, immigrated to the U.S. as a young child and served her adopted nation honorably by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1979. Carroll rose from the ranks of an enlisted jet mechanic to retire as a Lieutenant Commander Aviation Maintenance Officer after 20 years. Carroll ran for the Florida House of Representatives in 2003 and after winning she became the first African-American female Republican elected in the Florida Legislature’s history.
