Northeast Florida Builders Association Year in Review

December 27th, 2011 · Leave a Comment

The Northeast Florida Builders Association’s (NEFBA) 2011 was dominated by key issues, including a distressed housing market, weak economy and community challenges. The association responded by supporting public policy initiatives and charitable missions while advancing the building industry.

Here’s a look at NEFBA’s activities and achievements in 2011:

The 2011 President’s Project – NEFBA has an excellent history of providing outstanding projects for the community through its yearly President’s Project.  In 2011, NEFBA purchased and remodeled two distressed homes from the City of Jacksonville.  NEFBA is selling the homes as part of the city’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  Proceeds from the project will support NEFBA’s growth and education initiatives.

Mission Trip – President Michael Bourré organized an overseas mission trip for NEFBA, planned for early 2012, that will bring about a dozen of Northeast Florida’s most accomplished building and contracting professionals to St. Thomas to construct a housing facility and remodel several existing structures for Bluewater Bible College.

Builders Care – NEFBA members continued to support numerous Builders Care projects during 2011.  Builders Care is the association’s not-for-profit community-based construction organization whose mission is to provide home improvements, particularly to aid senior and disabled citizens to function safer in their own homes.

Public Policy – NEFBA has taken an active role in public policy issues in 2011.  Association leaders frequently traveled to Tallahassee to engage legislative leaders.  Bourré also traveled to Washington, D.C. on behalf of NEFBA to address the need for more accurate appraisal standards and practices at a summit hosted by the National Association of Home Builders.  As his term as NEFBA president ends, Bourré will continue to serve the industry as chairman of the Florida Home Builders Association’s (FHBA) Local Presidents Council.

2012 is shaping up to be another banner year for NEFBA! Check back for more updates in the new year.
