Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Jacksonville, an organization that serves as a “home away from home” for families while their children receive needed medical care, celebrated the opening of its newly expanded Ronald McDonald House on Wednesday. Following a $12.5 million expansion and renovation, the Ronald McDonald House will be able to serve more than 1,500 families a year.

“Our newly renovated Ronald McDonald House has been designed to best meet the needs of those we serve, providing lodging, meals, transportation and comfort to families of children receiving medical care in Jacksonville,” said Diane Boyle, Executive Director, RMHC of Jacksonville. “We truly appreciate the community’s support of our expansion, which is helping us share love and hope with more families.”

The newly renovated Ronald McDonald House features 26 new guest suites, a refreshed family kitchen, a new volunteer kitchen to support the many volunteers that prepare meals for visiting families, a larger dining room, an interactive playroom and a beautiful rooftop garden. The Rooftop Garden, with space for families to gather or for individual reflection, features a pavilion, an arbor, a water fountain, benches and magnificent views of the Jacksonville skyline and St. Johns River.

“The Rooftop Garden is an integral component of our Health and Wellness program,” Boyle said. “This beautiful space provides a place of calm and respite to our families, a place where they can be reflective and feel inspired by nature.”
