Bob Self’s series of photos depicts the urban renewal process in Jacksonville’s historic LaVilla neighborhood

Jacksonville Public Library is displaying the history and current culture of Jacksonville’s neighborhoods in its latest exhibit, Jacksonville: A Tale of My City. The exhibit is located in the Jax Makerspace Gallery at the Main Library and on display through Oct. 21.

In the exhibit, 13 photographers capture the city’s neighborhood identities and examine what it means it be a community. Featured artists are Laura Evans, Debra Heuskin, Wesley Lester, Malcolm Jackson, Ana Kamiar, Marc Mangra, Cheryl McCain, Khalil Osborne, Tenny Rudolph, Francesco Salomoni, Bob Self, Toni Smailagic, and David Williams.

The exhibit and its programs invite viewers to look around their own neighborhoods to see how they have been shaped by the communities where they live, work and play. During its run, it will be complemented with library programming and activities that focus on the civics, people, and history of Jacksonville neighborhoods.

Jacksonville: A Tale of My City is supported by a grant from The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. For more information, click here.
