SPAR Announces Beautification Project for Springfield Dog Park

May 2nd, 2022 · Leave a Comment

Springfield Preservation and Revitalization (SPAR) is proud to announce the award of a $5,000 matching grant from the City of Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Matching Grant program to beautify and enhance the Springfield Dog Park.

In partnership with RouxArt and COJ Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (JaxParks), the grant will be used to install dog agility equipment repurposed from precast concrete structures which lend themselves to this imaginative reuse. Taking cues from the forms, local Historic Springfield artists RouxArt will design a colorful mosaic which will be added to the concrete pieces.

The COJ Public Works Department has identified obsolete watercourse management construction pieces (concrete culverts, tunnels, junction boxes, etc) that will be placed at the park. These will become the play obstacles for Off Leash Dogs. They will also become the foundations for the mosaic.

As with SPAR’s past partnership with RouxArt on the 2019 Sesquicentennial Mosaic, the community will be invited to a series of workshops that will give them the opportunity to join in on the creation of public art. All Historic Springfield residents, as well as any members of the public, are invited to participate in the implementation of the project by attending any of the following free workshops (head to SPAR social media and website for specific details):

  • RouxArt Studios = May 10 and 20
  • Springfield Dog Park = June 5, 10, 18, 21
