MBF’s A Night at Roy’s – 5/2/18

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children (MBF) will host its annual “A Night at Roy’s” event, featuring gourmet cuisine, fabulous wines, tropical cocktails, live music, and a live and silent auction on Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m. One of Northeast Florida’s most widely attended charity events, James Beard Award Winner and world-renowned chef Roy Yamaguchi will once again thrill the crowd by offering guests contemporary Hawaiian-influenced gourmet cuisine. Last year’s event was an enormous success with more than 400 attendees and $55,000 raised to help keep children and teens safe through the MBF Child Safety Matters™ Prevention Education Series. These primary prevention programs address the most common types of victimization experienced by children and young adults, including bullying, abuse, digital dangers, and more.

Monique Burr Foundation for Children Welcomes Namesake’s Son as Newest Board Member

Two decades after his mother’s tragic death led to the creation of the Monique Burr Foundation for Children’s (MBF) Foundation in her name, Austin Burr is carrying on her legacy by joining the Board of Directors. Austin will attend his first board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 14 at MBF’s Jacksonville headquarters, 7807 Baymeadows Road E. Suite 202. A Senior Audit Associate and Certified Public Accountant at KPMG in Jacksonville, Austin will join his father, MBF founder Edward E. Burr, on the board. Ed Burr established the Monique Burr Foundation in 1997, on the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death. By then, Austin was 6 and his brother Garrison was 3. Monique Burr had been revered as a compassionate children's advocate and the founder of a nationally recognized nursing and day-care program for sick and disabled kids, the PALS Center.

Monique Burr Foundation Launches #KindVibes Initiative, Website for National Bullying Prevention Month

Parents, teachers and students now have a one-stop online resource to use during National Bullying Prevention Month, thanks to a new website and initiative launched this week by the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. The #KindVibes website, KindVibes.org, and campaign encourages students, parents, and teachers to learn how to recognize bullying and deal with it in positive, constructive ways. Students are encouraged to counter bullying by doing acts of kindness throughout October. They can then share their activities by using the hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
