The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of North Florida Raises More Than $160,000 with Sporting Events

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of North Florida (CFF) recently hosted two major sporting events – the 65 Roses Golf Classic and the Oldest City Red•Trout Classic – raising more than $160,000 for the Foundation in the fourth quarter of 2012.

More than 80 golfers turned out for the Foundation’s 13th annual 65 Roses Golf Classic at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. The tournament is named “65 Roses” for what some children with cystic fibrosis call the disease because the words are much easier for them to pronounce. Tournament participants enjoyed a day of golf and fellowship, followed by an awards ceremony with approximately 150 guests in attendance. This year’s golf tournament, sponsored by PlaidParty.com and WW Gay, raised more than $75,000. The tournament has raised more than $1 million for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s research and care programs since the event began in 1999.

Twenty-nine boats and more than a 100 people took part in the 11th annual Oldest City Red•Trout Classic presented by PSS World Medical at the Conch House Marina Resort in St. Augustine. The Classic is a catch and release tournament and is part of the popular Redbone Tournament Series. The three-day event kicked off with a Captain’s Dinner and auction and included an awards reception at the end of the tournament.  Winners of the tournament included:

  • Grand Champion Angler – Kevin English with Captain Tony Bozella
  • Grand Champion Anglers – Kevin English and John Sasen, Sr. with Captain Tony Bozella
  • 1st Runner Up Angler – John Sasen, Sr. with Captain Tony Bozella
  • 1st Runner up Team Anglers – Pete Lafser and Dave Remisiewicz with Captain JD Nobles
  • Largest Redfish Angler – Joe Desimone with Captain Ron Schurr
  • Largest Trout Angler – Kevin English with Captain Tony Bozella
  • Most Redfish Angler – Steve Dear with Captain Terry Sturgeon

This year’s Oldest City Red•Trout Classic raised more than $85,000 for the Foundation.
