Tony Boselli is on the speaking circuit lately getting everyone fired up about the Jacksonville Jaguars. We had the privilege to hear him give a Team Teal update to the Chamber of Commerce’s South Council recently. Here is a re-cap of what Tony talked about.Tony described Team Teal as the part of Touchdown Jacksonville purposed with reconnecting the Jaguars fan base to the team. Its goal is to have zero “blackouts” in the 2010 season. His presentation was broken down into three basic sections.

Q. Why is a full stadium important to local businesses?
A. The Jaguars in the community is good for all businesses. Prior to having a NFL team, Jacksonville’s per capital income was below the national average. Within three years of the Jaguars coming to Jacksonville, the city’s per capita income not only surpassed the national average but also exceeded that of other comparably sized NFL markets. Believe it or not, the Jaguars directly or indirectly effect our pocketbooks.

Q. What can businesses do to help?
A. Buy tickets! Like it or not, the perception of Jacksonville is based on how many seats are filled in the stadium each week. As Tony travels to other cities, people ask him, “What’s wrong with your city?” because they can’t figure out why we’re so disinterested in our own football team. To set an example, even though Tony can get into any game for free, he purchased 10 season tickets in the south end zone.

Q. What exactly is Team Teal?
A. Team Teal is a way to get ticket holders more involved and reward them for their dedication to the team. At www.MyTeamTeal.com people who purchase at least 2 season tickets with a multi-year contract can sign up as “team captains.” They can invite their friends and co-workers to join their “team” and spread the word about how awesome the Jags are. Throughout the season, the more people who join their team and purchase tickets, the more points that team gets. Teams earning points are then eligible for cool prizes like autographed gear, t-shirts, hats, etc.
