Tour Historic Springfield This Weekend

December 10th, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Do you know Springfield’s history? Springfield was originally a wealthy suburb in the early 1900s with a large number of wealthy residents. After being left homeless by the Great Fire of 1901 they rebuilt their homes there. Springfield has undergone revitalization and the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council invites you to go downtown and participate in the Springfield Home Tour being held this weekend, Dec. 10 and 11 starting at 5:30 p.m. with last tickets being sold at 8 p.m.

The tour will begin at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum, 101 First Street West, on the corner of Laura Street. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door with holiday fare and wassail included. This tour has been designed as a walking tour with all residences within reasonable walking distance, however, you may drive if you prefer.

As an added bonus during these record-breaking cold days, Sweet Pete’s will be giving away free hot cocoa through Dec. 19 to anyone who presents their Springfield Home Tour ticket stub.

Also on Dec. 11, starting at 10 a.m., the festival on the park will have arts and boutique stalls where you can get into the holiday spirit and get some holiday shopping done!

For more information on either event or to purchase tickets visit www.sparcouncil.org or call (904)353-7727.
