Featured speakers: Tom Murphy, Brian Leary, Renee Finley

Urban Land Institute (ULI) North Florida will present “Infrastructure 2012: Spotlight on Leadership” to discuss leveraging existing assets in order to support infrastructure efforts. The program is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Jacksonville Hotel.

Featured speakers for the program will include ULI Senior Fellow and former Mayor of Pittsburgh Tom Murphy as well as President and CEO of Atlanta Beltline, Inc. Brian Leary. Renee Finley, commissioner of public private partnerships for the City of Jacksonville, will also be a speaker at the event. Murphy will discuss how federal, state and local leaders are making infrastructure projects happen in a constrained funding environment in addition to presenting Infrastructure 2012, an annual ULI report that spotlights infrastructure leadership at both the regional and local levels. Leary will review Atlanta’s economic redevelopment and mobility project that will shape the way Atlanta grows throughout the next several decades. Finley will discuss the new initiative by Mayor Alvin Brown that seeks to spur economic development, leverage city assets and place more properties back on the tax rolls.

Some highlights of the program will include a special section exploring the growing use of ballot initiatives for roads, transit, open space and water in the United States; case studies illustrating how infrastructure leaders are using new technology, regional cooperation and other strategies to move infrastructure projects forward; and recommendations on how state and local governments can make infrastructure projects happen despite constrained fiscal environments.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. with registration and networking followed by the program from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The cost of the program for advance registration is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. On-site registration is also available the day of the event for $55. Registration can be completed by calling (800) 321-5011 or registering online at www.northflorida.uli.org.
