Time for one more weekend of family fun before the kids head back to school.

Start by checking out the Lavilla Art & Music Project Festival on Saturday, Aug. 9 in Hemming Plaza, where from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. there will be free back-to-school supplies, free food, free health screenings – and live performances by Jacksonville’s top local music, dance and poetry performers.

Like birthdays? Then head out on Saturday, Aug. 9 to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for JaZoo’s Birthday and Back to School Bash.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the bash – which also celebrates World Lion Day – will consist of birthday treats, birthday games, music, prize drawings and a special scavenger hunt hosted by Outback Steakhouse.

Admission is free for children 2 and under; $10.95 for children 3-12; and $15.95 for adults, but the zoo is offering a $2 off coupon. For more information, visit the zoo’s event page online.

Or you might try something more relaxing, like strolling through the Fernandina Beach Arts Market on Saturday, Aug. 9 (and every 2^nd and 4^th Saturday of the month) in historic downtown Fernandina.

There’s a farmer’s market, arts – and, of course, where there’s arts, there’s crafts. You can also enjoy local musicians and artists – all for no cost..

Finally, been cooped up with the kids too long? Attend the Water Balloon Fight benefitting the Florida Pancreatic Cancer Coalition. Work out a little frustration, and contribute to a good cause all at once.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 960 Girvin Road in Jacksonville. Admission is free and donations are welcome.

In addition to water balloon fights, festivities include a bouncy house, music, raffles, food trucks, and a rock climbing wall.
